Yay – Prix du Jury has gone to Ken Loach’s funny, heartwarming ANGEL’S SHARE!
Will update as they’re announced! Just refresh the page.
Beyond the Hill…the writer-director has just won an award, but I’m not sure what for…it’s all in French!
Carlos Reygadas…hmmm, again not sure what for…even when people are speaking in English the Festival transmission in the press conference is in French.
Best Actor – sooooo glad, it’s the actor from The Hunt! He’s brilliant! The audience is going mad with support. Just saw the film an hour ago – it’s a must-see.
Alec Baldwin’s just stepped on stage to present Best Female Actress…and it’s gone to the two female leads in the Romanian BEYOND THE HILL. They were outstanding. But there was a lot of talent at this year’s festival. It would not have been an easy choice…
And now The Grand Prix…REALITY…the Italian film!
And lastly, as predicted…the Palme d’Or goes to AMOUR!!!!
Here’s a list with correct names and prizes (We’ve just been given press releases as Amour was announced.)
Palme d’Or: Amour
Grand Prix: Reality, directed by Matteo Garrone
Award for Best Director: Carlos Reygadas, Post Tenebres Lux
Award for Best Screenplay: Beyond the Hills, directed by Cristian Mungiu
Award for Best Actress: Cosmina Stratan and Cristina Flutur, Beyond the Hills
Award for Best Actor: Mads Mikkelsen, The Hunt
Jury Prize: The Angels Share, directed by Ken Loach
Camera d’Or: Beasts of the Southern Wild, directed by Benh Zeitlin
None of the American films won an award…which shows how tough the competition was, because many of them – like Paperboy and On The Road – featured great acting, scripts and direction…
